 Senior Policy Associate

Global Action for Children is seeking a proactive, experienced, and innovative team player to join our policy team. This is a great opportunity to put your advocacy and organizational skills to work and demonstrate leadership on efforts aimed at helping children around the world.  This position will report directly to GAC’s Policy Director.  The Senior Policy Associate will be responsible for implementing advocacy strategy with guidance from GAC’s Policy Director as well as identifying strategic and creative opportunities to further policies that benefit children.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead or assist in conducting policy research and writing and editing policy and advocacy briefs.
  • Lead or assist in researching and writing background and briefing materials.
  • Assist in designing and implementing communications with coalition members to build support of children, including writing op-eds and letters to the editor and other written materials. 
  • Assist in communicating with policymakers and coordinating Congressional briefings as well as other stakeholder meetings.
  • Represent GAC at congressional hearings, briefings, conferences, and other meetings domestically on behalf of GAC and update the team on the outcomes of such meetings.
  • Support efforts to expand advocacy partnerships to further the organizational strategic goals and priorities.
  • Support grassroots outreach in writing and editing background materials, action alerts and policy updates to facilitate grassroots activism targeting policymakers and the media.
  • Support GAC Communications and Development departments in creating fundraising materials and web content.
  • Participate in Policy Team meetings and coordinate with other GAC team members.
  • Report to Policy Director.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy or related field preferred.
  • Three years experience in policy development and/or advocacy required; at least three years of experience working on children’s issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct policy analysis and design and implement policy initiatives.
  • Ability to lead and manage a coalition and strong convening skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive highly motivated professional able to work effectively independently and as part of a team with ability to see project though to fruition.
  • Track record of successfully managing multiple concurrent projects and consistently delivering with high quality.
  • Some knowledge of orphans and vulnerable children and/or related children’s and development issues.
  • Familiarity working with 501(c)(3) organizations preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor, with the ability to build relationships
  • A demonstrated commitment to assisting children around the globe.

Development Director

Position Summary

Global Action for Children is fast making a name for itself and has already received six- and seven-figure grants from prestigious foundations.  Global Action for Children is seeking a proactive, experienced, Development Director to join GAC’s senior staff.  The Development Director will be responsible for all of GAC’s fundraising efforts, including building the development department, establishing and implementing development systems, cultivating and maintaining donor relations and marketing Global Action for Children to the funding community.  This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet GAC’s annual operating needs from sources that include foundations, corporations, and individuals;

·         Identify, cultivate, and expand relationships with foundations, corporations and major individual donors;

·         Oversee and manage fundraising database and reporting;

·         Work with Executive Director, Board members and Advisory Board to achieve revenue goals;

·         Write grants as well as oversee the grant-writing process.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in fundraising;

·         Ability to establish and implement development systems in a start-up environment;

·         Strong knowledge of development, including grant writing, working with foundations, researching grant opportunities, reporting, prospect research and tracking, etc.;

·         A proven track record in organizing and implementing major gifts, annual gifts, grant writing, corporate and foundation giving, direct mail, and special events;

·         Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrates good judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality;

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills;

·         Attentive to details and highly organized;

·         Supervisory experience is helpful.

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
