Their education and wellbeing is an investment in our future.”

Co-Sponsor the Education For All Act of 2010

72 million primary-school aged children around the world won’t step foot in classroom this year. Prohibitively high school fees, long distances to travel, and insufficient numbers of teachers are just a few of the obstacles these children have to receiving an education. Yet education is one of our best ways of helping children grow up safe, healthy, and prepared to help lift their communities out of poverty.

On April 21, 2010, Representatives Nita Lowey (D-18th NY) and Dave Reichert (R-8th WA) introduced the Education for All Act of 2010 (H.R. 5117), a bill that seeks to ensure the U.S. provides resources and leadership so all children have the chance to get a quality basic education. The world’s children need more members of Congress to take the lead and co-sponsor this important bill.

Support the Global Child Survival Act

On October 28, 2009, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), along with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Bob Corker (R-TN), introduced the Global Child Survival Act (S. 1966), a piece of legislation aimed at reducing child mortality and improving child health worldwide.

Every day, 24,000 children under the age of five die around the world from causes that are mostly preventable and treatable. That’s 8.8 million children each year.

Take action now! Email your senators and urge them to co-sponsor the Global Child Survival Act to give children around the world the opportunity to grow up safe and healthy.

Tell your Members of Congress to invest in children this year

Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti in January, the world’s eyes and efforts have been focused on supporting the Haitian people. But around the world, 24,000 children under five years old die each day, and millions more fail to receive the proper nutrition, healthcare, and education they need to grow up safe and healthy. As we work together as a global community to rebuild Haiti, we must not forget the families around the world struggling each day.

Right now, Congress is deciding funding levels for U.S. foreign assistance for next year, Fiscal Year 2011. We must work to ensure that key foreign aid programs, including PEPFAR, our government’s landmark program to fight HIV/AIDS and provide support for orphans and vulnerable children throughout the developing world, and programs to support child survival and maternal health, receive the funding levels they need to help kids worldwide grow up safe and healthy.

Take action now! Tell your member of Congress that the 2011 international affairs budget must support children worldwide!
