Save the Children: G-8 Deliver Mixed Results for Global Development

June 26, 2010: The final communiqué of the G-8 summit delivered mixed results for the world’s poorest children and families, Save the Children said Saturday. Its conclusions marked positive action on reducing global hunger, but unfinished work on child and maternal health.

Countries Selected for Additional U.S. Global Health Support

June 18, 2010: This morning, the State Department, USAID and the Department of Health and Human Services released a joint press release announcing the first round of “GHI Plus” countries, and providing details on the program’s governance. as we have described before, the U.S. Global Health Initiative (GHI) is a $63 billion initiative to coordinate and expand U.S. efforts to improve global health over six years.

June 7, 2010: The number of people suffering from hunger has now topped 1 billion globally -- the highest since 1970, according to the United Nations. U.S. foreign-aid director Rajiv Shah, 37, recently presented the Obama administration's strategy to tackle the food crisis.

GAC members call for Congress to support the Global HEALTH Act

May 11, 2010: Earlier this year, Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) introduced the Global HEALTH Act of 2010 to provide $2 billion over 5 years to increase the number of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health workers in developing countries, and to improve primary health care for all. To pass, the bill needs support from more members of Congress who need to hear from you.
