Young Evangelicals Rank Orphans and Vulnerable Children Top Issue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 12, 2008

WASHINGTON - Young evangelical Christians care deeply about the crisis facing the millions of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, and want the next President of the United States to do something about it.

ABC News World News Tonight reported this week that children orphaned by AIDS ranks among the top three issues concerning young evangelical Christians as they consider Presidential candidates. The report said this group also wants to see attention paid to Internet pornography and the media glamorization of sex and drugs.

"It is incredibly encouraging to see young evangelical Christians demanding the Presidential candidates address the problems facing orphans and vulnerable children around the world," said Jennifer Delaney, Executive Director of Global Action for Children. "It shows these young people have a deep understanding of the world we live in, and a respect for and connection to not only their neighbors next door, but their neighbors around the globe."

Global Action for Children is a nonpartisan advocacy coalition working to improve the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in the developing world.

"UNAIDS estimates that, by 2010, 20 million children worldwide will have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS," Delaney continues. "Young evangelical Christians are showing they understand that making the world a better place for children orphaned by AIDS makes the world a better and safer place for all children."
